Position: We will hire a Summer Associate in its New York office to work with our Global Portfolio team. This is an outstanding opportunity for a graduate candidate to contribute to investing work through a hands-on internship with a focused and dedicated global team. Portfolio Team Our Portfolio team is responsible for finding, vetting, and managing investments in game-changing social enterprises that serve the poor in our six portfolio sectors: water, health, housing, energy, agriculture, and education. The Portfolio team also provides management support to existing companies in our portfolio through tracking key performance metrics and hands-on relationship management. Responsibilities The Summer Associate will help the NY Portfolio team research focus sub-sectors, evaluate new investment opportunities, support high-potential investments, and conduct due diligence on existing opportunities as they arise. The Associate will be able to use his or her business skills in evaluating the growth and return potential of social enterprises from both a financial and social impact perspective, gaining practical insights into a new approach in social investing. He or she may also be asked to assist with specific post-investment management projects addressing the distinct challenges facing our portfolio companies, who are many times operating in newly created markets or difficult geographies. The Associate may also have the opportunity to help the portfolio team implement new investment processes and performance evaluation across the organization, and help manage and improve portfolio operations on a global level. More specifically, you may have the opportunity to: Conduct research into new investment opportunities for Acumen s portfolio sectors; Produce sector maps detailing opportunities and challenges within one of Acumen s geographies and sectors; Conduct due diligence on potential investments; Build financial models for social enterprises; Implement new pre-investment and post-investment processes across the global portfolio; Research potential resources to support current portfolio companies operations; Analyze portfolio-wide social and financial metrics; Help manage and build out portfolio performance tracking systems; Produce discrete knowledge and research materials based on learnings from Acumen s portfolio Qualifications & Characteristics MBA candidate or Master s candidate in a relevant field Experience in financial analysis and modeling Strong ability to take initiative with research and analysis and produce valuable results in conditions of uncertainty International work experience preferred Academic training or work experience focused on health, housing, water, agriculture, energy or education is required Capacity to work with NGO/business managers in different countries/cultures Capability to present investment ideas in memoranda to senior management and advisors Bachelor's Degree is required Ideally be familiar with the social enterprise sector and leadership development programs Required experience: 0 - 2 years Minimum required education: Bachelor's Degree Job category: Accounting, Insurance & Finance;Principal Investing & Alternative Asset Management
