A long-time professional painter is looking for an assistant to help one day per week with art-based administrative tasks. This is a paid position for someone who is organized, reliable, can pay attention to detail and deadlines, and help the artist with light computer skills when needed. The right candidate will have an art or arts administrative/gallery background or who is studying to be involved with the arts in the future.

Regular, ongoing tasks include:

-Researching open call shows and keeping track of the deadlines and requirements for these shows (for example, how many paintings are needed, and which paintings were submitted).
-Drafting emails as needed
-Communicating with the artist on which shows he would like to apply to and with which paintings, his schedule, and helping him navigate the online submission processes
-Looking for opportunities for artist talks
-Applying to open call shows and other opportunities to showcase the artist’s work
-Researching galleries, group shows, hotels and restaurants who may be interested in the artists’s work
-Resizing images when needed to conform to submission guidelines for shows
-Mac computer proficiency, word processing skills a must; Adobe Photoshop and photography skills a plus
-Light social media marketing of the artist’s work, shows, and talks on Instagram, improving web presence
-Keeping track of the artist’s schedule regarding shows, when and where paintings need to be sent
-Corresponding with art galleries when needed
-Helping devise a plan with the artist to increase sales of artist’s work using all of the above

As-needed tasks: helping transport the artist’s paintings to local shows, and helping ship paintings to out-of-state shows, with the opportunity to attend opening nights locally.

More hours are available if you are also willing to help catalogue the artist’s paintings in his Hoboken studio, which is a long-term project.

This position is perfect for a student or someone looking for part time and a flexible schedule who is fond of open communication. He is located right near Borough of Manhattan Community College off of the 2/3 line. Please send resume and a brief introducing yourself and why you think you’re a good fit for the job; please put “Artist’s Assistant” in the email subject line —look forward to meeting you!
