What We Do: Theatre of the Oppressed NYC (TONYC) partners with communities facing discrimination to inspire transformative action through theatre.

How It Works:
Through partnerships with social service organizations, advocacy groups and city agencies, TONYC creates theatre troupes with community members who face pressing social, economic, health, and human rights issues. The troupes create and perform plays based on real-life struggles, engaging diverse audiences in theatrical brainstorming - or Forum Theatre - to creatively challenge systems of oppression. TONYC audiences also include elected officials and policy-makers, leading to policy proposals generated through a creative, community-based process, or Legislative Theatre. Through our partnerships, we activate communities and creatively challenge systems of oppression.

Work With Us: TONYC is seeking a Community Engagement Intern for Winter-Spring 2017! This position works in collaboration with the Program & Communications Associate and the administrative team, as well as volunteers, to assist with communications and partnership building through outreach and web content creation, volunteer coordination and assistance with programs, as well as daily administrative tasks.
