The Perfect Earth Project, a United States tax-exempt organization (501 C-3), promotes toxin-free lawns and landscapes for the benefit of human health and the environment. Perfect Earth helps raise awareness about the dangers of synthetic lawn and landscape chemicals and educates homeowners and landscape professionals in how to use natural, safe practices to achieve great results at no extra cost.

Reporting directly to and working closely with the President, the Director of Development will be responsible for planning and implementing an annual fundraising and donor relation strategy. The Director of Development will be responsible for assisting and supporting the President in cultivating a wide variety of external relationships and raising funds from individual, corporate, foundation, and government supporters. Perfect Earth is located in East Hampton, NY, with most current donors based in the Hamptons or New York City. The fundraising goal is $600,000 annually and the Director of Development will be responsible, working with the President, to raise this amount through the following activities: Formulate fundraising goals to secure annual and multi-year commitments to advance strategic goals of Perfect Earth and determine how many existing and new donors are required to meet goals;
Develop comprehensive budget for development activities and donor cultivation;
Working with the Executive Assistant, serve as staff liaison to the Board of Directors, provide regular reports, develop meeting agendas, and encourage greater Board participation;
Analyze Board composition and potential relationships within the organization;
Clarify donor benefits and work closely with the President to solicit in-kind support and major gifts from individual and corporate donors; cultivate and maintain personal relationships with current, past and potential funders;
Create a fundraising case statement to solicit support from individuals and foundations; Identify potential grant opportunities; maintain a grant calendar; draft applications and take responsibility for all grant reporting for 5-10 foundation grants annually;
Develop corporate benefits package to approach 5-10 corporate and small businesses; Design and manage cultivation and fundraising events to raise funds and interest and awareness among various audiences;
Design and manage semi-annual Benefit to attract ~300 $1K donors;
Work closely with Director of Communications to produce and disseminate annual report and annual appeal and other online fundraising efforts;
Coordinate individual landscape consultations by President and other PRFCT experts that may result in major gifts;
Target major organizations that can amplify Perfect Earth’s message either as policy advocates or strategic partners; determine level of joint promotion and implement collaborations;
Determine efficacy of launching new membership campaign;
Utilize GiftWorks database to manage ongoing communication with prospects and donors;
Report on outcomes and return on investment for all fundraising activities;
Coordinate fundraising around President’s speaking engagements;
Work closely with the Director of Communications and the Education and Outreach Coordinator to connect fundraising to programs.

QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will have at least 10+ years of fundraising experience in the non-profit environment sector. We are seeking an individual with these qualifications:
A branding point of view – in other words, a fundraising strategy that builds donor loyalty to Perfect Earth as the most effective change agent in the field; experience implementing an annual fundraising campaign to engage foundation, government, corporate and individual contributors;
Ability to cultivate major donors and make direct solicitations; experience implementing fundraising events;
A strong desire to meet new people and develop relationships on behalf of Perfect Earth;
A passionate, life-long personal and professional commitment to the environment; Contacts in and knowledge of major donors and grant makers in environmental sectors.

PERSONAL SKILLS: Creative, imaginative and energetic;
Ability to formulate and execute effective strategies; A strong track record of building effective relationships;
Excellent process manager and decision-maker;
Experience in start-up environments;
Purposeful and compelling communicator in oral and written presentations;
Self-directed, organized and entrepreneurial; can work autonomously with confidence but also seeks out opportunities for collaboration to advance goals;
Willingness to travel to meet funders, partners, and local constituencies;
Proficient with MS Office Suite and fundraising software (GiftWorks preferred) to measure the impact of fundraising initiatives.
