Description
The Chancellor Robert R Livingston Masonic Library of the Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of the State of New York is searching for a Librarian.

JOB SUMMARY
The Chancellor Robert R Livingston Masonic Library of the Grand Lodge of New York is one of the world's largest collections of books and archival holdings relating to the subject of Freemasonry. For over 150 years, the Library has pursued its mission to collect, study and preserve the Masonic heritage, focusing its efforts on the history and impact of Freemasonry in New York State. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management and administration of all activities related to operations in the Chancellor Robert R Livingston Masonic Library, helping to shape and enforce library policies regarding use of the collection, and to preserve and maintain the library collections. The Library also maintains an artifact collection and museum that is administered separately.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
1) Create, introduce, and enforce all policies and regulations regarding the use of Library and archival material;
2) Perform reference work including genealogical requests, inquiries from fraternal members and the general public, and assistance of visiting patrons;
3) Review the strategic plan and its implementation in regards to Library’s mission, and develop policies in collaboration with the Library Trustees and Grand Lodge leadership;
4) Supervise the work of other Library staff as stipulated by the Library Trustees;
5) Maintain the Library budget, process bills, and review potential incoming donations and relevant correspondence;
6) Oversee the circulation, cataloging and organization of the collection, as well as the Reading Course program;
7) Oversee the scanning and digitization program as stipulated by the Library Trustees;
8) Represent the Library with presentations at lodge meetings and conferences, as well as participate and maintain active dialogue with the Masonic Museum and Library Association

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION – M.L.S. or similar degree from accredited institution required; familiarity with current museum protocols and curatorial practices is beneficial
EXPERIENCE – Minimum of 3 years of relevant library experience
ABILITIES – Basic knowledge of library operations and cataloging procedures, as well as Masonic history
Preference given to candidates with active Masonic Lodge affiliation
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: retrieve and re-shelve library material, lift 40-60 lb. boxes
TYPICAL EQUIPMENT USED: computer, scanner, microfilm, photocopier, recorded media equipment
