Senior Development Officer - BELL (Building Educated Leaders for Life) (New York, NY)

BELL has pursued its mission in New York City since 1996. The Senior Development Officer is a key member of BELL's eight-person national Development Department, which is responsible for generating the resources required to operate and sustain BELL's programs across our regions. The department raises approximately $11M annually in philanthropy from a variety of foundations and corporations across the country. BELL seeks a Senior Development Officer to manage philanthropic support for BELL programs in New York City and Newark, NJ, building upon a strong base of institutional and public funders to diversify sources of support to include individuals and family foundations. This candidate will work closely with the Chief Development Officer on development and staffing of a new volunteer cohort (BELL/NYC Leadership Council) designed to strengthen local fundraising capacity. This individual will also collaborate closely with a BELL's development and leadership teams to manage a multifaceted regional fundraising plan encompassing the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of foundations, corporations, and public funding sources.
The Sr. Development Officer will conduct activities vital to meeting fundraising goals for BELL's New York region. Specific responsibilities encompass:
â¢ Stewardship and engagement (30%) â Help plan and implement strategies to strengthen BELL's capacity for local fundraising, including the effort to recruit and engage a new volunteer Leadership Council focused on BELL/NY; plan and implement mechanisms to deepen relationships with current and prospective funders through donor recognition, corporate volunteer opportunities, funder meetings, and special events; coordinate site visits and support the Board, CEO, and management team in enabling effective stewardship activities.
â¢ Grant Writing, Reporting & Communications (40%) - Coordinate and execute a significant number of grant proposals, reports, and funder communications. Collaborate with local program teams on pursuing funding and partnership opportunities, and to communicate program activities to external stakeholders.
â¢ Portfolio Management, Strategy & Planning (30%) - Actively research, identify, and purse leads to continually grow the funding pipeline. Collaborate on the development and execution of long-term fundraising strategies for the local New York community.
â¢ Bachelors Degree, 3 to 6 years of successful fundraising experience in New York City.
â¢ Experience successfully leading and motivating volunteers and volunteer committees a major plus.
â¢ Demonstrated track record of success in grant writing and funder relationship management. â¢ Strong written and oral communication skills.
â¢ Exceptional time management, project management, organizational and problem solving skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, results-oriented, entrepreneurial organization with tight deadlines and frequently changing priorities.
