Individual must have B.A. in art history, history, anthropology, education, visual arts or a related field, plus museum education experience. M.A. or formal training in museum education preferred. Excellent museum-based teaching, writing, research, communication, organization, and interpersonal skills are necessary. Supervisory experience is necessary, as well as knowledge of child development, museum education theory, quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods. Experience developing lessons and educational materials for k-12 education. The candidate should have a strong desire to mentor young professionals, work with school age children and an interest in collaborating with school teachers and museum staff at all levels. Additional museum experience is strongly preferred.

The Senior Museum Instructor will lead the Brooklyn Museum’s prestigious Museum Education Fellowship Program. This position oversees all aspects of the Program including recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of 5-8 full-time Fellows each academic year. The Fellowship Coordinator is responsible for training and supervising these young professionals during their 10-month tenure working in all aspects of the Museum’s education and public programs, including:
 Collaborating regularly with other education, public programs and curatorial staff to foster the growth of the Education Fellows and their proficiency conducting programming for diverse museum audiences.
 Guiding Fellows through the process of developing original qualitative research and helping to share findings and recommendations with key stakeholders across other departments.
 Coordinating and compiling two comprehensive yearly performance evaluations for each Fellow.
 Promoting increased visibility for the program by spearheading an on-line platform to showcase the Fellow’s research projects.

The Senior Museum Instructor will also be responsible for teaching occasional guided gallery visits and/or school partnerships for K-12 students in the galleries, classroom and potentially in the art studio. The Senior Museum Educator will work on evaluation and assessment for the Fellowship and will contribute to collaborative grant proposals and reports.

Individual will report to the School Program Manager. Implementation of programs may require occasional weekend work.

WORK SCHEDULE: 35 hours, Monday-Friday, with occasional weekend work
