Are you an adult who is questioning your sexuality? Have you always lived your life as a straight person but wondered what it would be like to be with someone of the same sex? Are you curious about whether you might be bisexual?

A well-respected, non-fiction TV Production Company is searching for women and men who are in the early stages of questioning and exploring their sexual orientation to be a part of a revolutionary new docu-series for a major cable network.

Whether you've been questioning from a young age but have yet to act on your curiosity, or you've recently started to have these feelings and are unsure of how to tell your friends and family, we would love to hear from you.

We realize the sensitive and personal nature of this topic. Our goal is to create a supportive and authentic environment in which individuals can explore the question of whether they’re bisexual. We hope that this series will bring the struggles that many people endure into the public eye, as well as combat negative stereotypes – especially about bisexuality.

If you are outgoing and single and interested in participating in this project, please email us at casting@halfyardproductions.com

Director Chris Rivera (Director of 2014’s critically acclaimed Romeo & Juliet) brings audiences into a post-apocalyptic Rome. The last glimmer of civilization surrounded by a world in ruin. SEEKING REPLACEMENT CAST MEMBERS FOR
HONEST ACCOMPLICE THEATRE’S
THE BIRDS AND THE BEES: UNABRIDGED

Directed by Maggie Keenan-Bolger and Rachel Sullivan

The Birds and the Bees: Unabridged is a devised performance piece about female and trans sexuality created and produced by Honest Accomplice Theatre. The show was first created and performed at University Settlement in 2013 and had a revised production in 2014. We are now touring to colleges in the Northeast. Some of our previous cast members are unable to commit to the touring schedule and we are seeking replacements.

We are particularly seeking trans people (anywhere on the gender spectrum), women and trans people of color, women and trans people with disabilities, and queer women and trans people of all ages.

CHARACTERS:
**trans people are welcome and encouraged to audition for any character, even if not specifically labeled as trans identified.

Emerson- 18-25 year old transgender/genderqueer person in the process of explaining their identity to their somewhat dubious mother. Emerson goes by the pronouns they/them/theirs. Trans people who identify anywhere on the spectrum are welcome. May require some singing. (all ethnicities/abilities/sexual orientations encouraged to audition)

Ramona- 30-40 year old doctor who is having trouble in her marriage. May require some singing. (all ethnicities/abilities/sexual orientations encouraged to audition)

Grace- Freshman in college. She is navigating the world as a virgin when everyone/thing around her seems to be encouraging her to have sex. (all ethnicities/abilities/sexual orientations encouraged to audition)

Terry - Queer woman of color, age 30-40. She is navigating a bi-racial relationship and the difficulties of being a woman in public spaces. (all ethnicities/abilities/sexual orientations encouraged to audition)

Alex – Queer woman, age 30-40. She is navigating a bi-racial relationship and a changing relationship with her own body. May require some singing. (all ethnicities/abilities/sexual orientations encouraged to audition)

Previous devising experience not needed, but you must be able to work in a fast paced, highly collaborative environment with a diverse cast and crew. You must also be available to take whole days off for touring engagements, we typically need one to two days for a booking. We give advance notice of our tours, and each role is double cast so we can work with performer’s busy schedules. We all have outside work commitments and are mindful of making our travel arrangements as convenient for working performers as possible.

DETAILS:
Audition dates are slated for: Tuesday April April 21, 7-9pm, and Saturday, April 25th 1-4pm. If you are interested, but cannot attend one of these dates, please email and explain your situation.
Please submit a headshot/resume, audition availability and a few sentences about why you’re interested in the project to admin@honestaccomplice.org

Pay: All performers will receive a rehearsal stipend (for rehearsals May – July) and will be paid a competitive fee per touring engagement. You may also be asked to do volunteer performances for groups with few resources, but participation in these events is optional.

REHEARSALS SCHEDULE/PERFORMANCES/COMMITMENT: You must be available for rehearsals and July performances.

1) Rehearsals, weekday evenings and weekends: (taking place in Manhattan and Brooklyn)
May: rehearsals 2-3x a week
June: rehearsals 3-4x a week
July: Tech sometime July 1 – July 8th (may be over July 4th weekend)

2.) Performances in at The Tank in midtown NYC
July 9 @ 7pm, July 10th @ 9:30pm, July 12th @ 2pm

3.) Tour
Fall 2015 and beyond: tour dates to be confirmed shortly.
It is our hope that The Birds and the Bees: Unabridged can provide a spark for conversation, include silenced voices, and offer space for women and trans people to partake in gender justice by voicing their real opinions and concerns about sexuality. This tour is an opportunity for performers to positively impacting the lives and broadening the perspectives of college students and more across the country.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

THE BIRDS & THE BEES: UNABRIDGED explores the unique -- yet interwoven -- life circumstances of eight women & trans people forced to confront their own sexuality, realizing that sexuality itself is not simple or clear-cut. Through dialogue, movement, song, humor, and multimedia, the performance examines such themes as partner communication, sexual identity, the de-sexualization of aging women, today’s “hook-up” culture, and sexual health.

“This show touched on some very important and complex topics that are difficult to discuss and explain. The actors and actresses depicted some weighty scenarios with dignity and grace.” - Judy Krinitz, Assistant Director of Student Life, Queens College

"This play validates, stimulates with laughter and shows our deep humanity." - 62-year-old female audience member

“I have never been so entertainingly educated about female sexuality as I was tonight. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and learned quite a bit along the way.” - Male Audience Member

ABOUT HONEST ACCOMPLICE THEATRE:
Honest Accomplice Theatre is a non-profit with a mission to generate dialogue and stimulate change by focusing on topics that are often silenced, seen as shameful, or portrayed as one-dimensional. To deliver on this mission, Honest Accomplice Theatre produces work by the community, with the community, and for the community. The result is a group-created performance piece that embodies truthful characters, scenarios, and ideas. This creation of new art is vital to counteract mainstream work, which often ignores, or misrepresents the voices and interests of real people. Honest Accomplice Theatre’s previous projects have centered on the themes of sex and sexuality, women’s experiences in public spaces, self-injury, aging, and LGBTQIA youth homelessness. Award winning writer Tim Realbuto (Ghostlight; Wunderkind; “The Sopranos”) is seeking an actor for his new one-act play Yes, which will perform as part of the 12th annual Emerging Artists Theatre New Work Series. Yes is a two-person drama about Patrick Ness (Realbuto), a faded star in his 30’s who now teaches private acting lessons in NYC, and his new teenage student Jeremiah Rosenhaft. What begins as an innocent acting lesson turns into a sick game of cat and mouse, resulting in mental torture, sexual advances, and perhaps the destruction of two (possibly) innocent people.

SEEKING: JEREMIAH (LEAD) – Male actor, 18+, but MUST read no older than 15 or 16. Jeremiah is the picture of perfection, a young leading man in every way. The kind of Adonis we see in teen movies, but aren’t sure actually exist in real life. Actor must be comfortable being shirtless on stage (not required at audition) and being in minor sexual situations with another male (two kisses, some slight touching). Jeremiah is straight and is not comfortable with these advances from the older Patrick. Seeking extremely strong actor. Shakespeare experience is a plus as he must recite several speeches from 'Romeo and Juliet' in the play.

Auditions will be held by appointment
only on Friday, April 24th from 1-6 PM at a midtown studio. Callbacks, if necessary, will be held on Sunday, April 26th. Union and Non-Union performers are invited to submit their headshot and resume to Realbuto’s assistant Mallory Schaus at Mallory.RealbutoAssistant@gmail.com. Please indicate which time would be best for you on April 24th and the production team will do their best to accommodate you. Actors who receive an appointment slot will be asked to prepare a dramatic monologue under 3 minutes in length.

The festival provides Equity performers a waiver to appear in the production as well as a $100 stipend per performance. Producers of this production will also provide actor with a rehearsal and travel stipend. If a Non-Equity performer is cast, producer will provide same stipend as Union performers.

The show will rehearse around the actor’s schedule 5-8 times in midtown starting at the end of April. Yes will perform on Tuesday, June 2nd at 7:00 PM at the TADA! Theater, 15 West 28th Street.
