Associate Science and Technology Editor THE NEW YORKER Cond Nast seeks an Associate Science and Technology editor for a staff position on newyorker.com. Overview/Purpose The function of the is to * Edit and assign blog posts to New Yorker staff writers and freelancers * Write blog posts * Update newyorker.com using Teamsite and Movable Type * Help oversee and re-imagine the way that newyorker.com covers technology and science Primary Responsibilities In this position, the Associate Editor will be responsible for assigning and editing blog posts on the subjects of science and technology. Candidates should be skilled at: * Quickly and carefully assigning, editing, proofreading, and publishing blog posts using The New Yorker's blogging platform. * Writing blog posts about both breaking news and more conceptual topics. Some of these posts will be short and some will be relatively long. * Communicating with the rest of the web team (editors, producers, photo editors, video editors) as well as the rest of the magazine's staff to ensure that the best stories are assigned and published. Requirements: Candidates must have: 5-8 years experience as a science and technology journalist An ability to come up with story ideas quickly The ability to master unfamiliar publishing tools quickly A knowledge and interest in the history and style of The New Yorker magazine The ability to manage multiple projects at once, including unexpected breaking-news projects Experience with content management systems Passion for and experience with various social media platforms, either personal or professional Cond Nast is home to some of the world's most celebrated media brands.
