“Drawing Surrealism”
Surrealism is often viewed only through the lens of Salvador Dali, but the creative techniques the surrealist artists such as Max Ernest, Andre Masson and May Ray invented continued to be used by artists including automatic drawing, collage, decalcomania, exquisite corpse, frottage and rayograms.
After a short introduction on J. Pierpont Morgan and his collection we will view the special exhibit “Drawing Surrealism” to explore the central role of drawing in surrealism. Drawing was the primary means for expression and innovation by the surrealist artists. We will discuss drawings by Salvador Dali, Max Ernest, Joan Miro and other artists. The surrealist movement was one of the most dynamic and international art movements in history.
