We are a healthcare engineering firm with NYC hospitals as clients. We are looking for an IoT engineer contractor to help use and build small IoT devices to make currently-wired medical devices in hospitals wireless and more secure.

We have built a Raspberry Pi with several wireless/security features and installed it to protect traffic between several of a hospital's medical devices and its IT network. We have also tested a Wi-Fi adapter solution that also incorporates some of these elements. We are looking to build on this work with new types of medical devices. We also may explore new IoT features or even experiment with other IoT devices performing wireless/security functions. This job is an R&D job that is very applied.

The job description is as follows:

- An IoT specialist willing to work under a 3-month contract, but if this works out, will continue as a permanent arrangement.
- Must be able to work onsite in Manhattan in a hospital IT environment for at least 60-70% of the work-week. The rest of the hours can be negotiable (e.g., some in our offices in Brooklyn, some at the contractor's home, etc).
- Must be a specialist in IoT devices such as Raspberry Pi and Wi-Fi adapters.
- Strong understanding of and ability to set up Wi-Fi between an IoT device and a wireless access point on different hospital IT networks.
- Further, strong knowledge of wireless protocols and ability to debug them using packet tracers (e.g., Wireshark, etc) if wireless connectivity is not working. That is, the contractor needs to be able to not only configure but debug such wireless protocols.
- Strong ability to set up security mechanisms, such as firewalls, on capable IoT devices, as well as configure encryption of data in transit from IoT device to hospital IT network.
- Must be able to system program and configure an IoT Operating System (for example, Linux) with appropriate specified features and create a "gold stack" image of it. Should also be able to replicate this image to multiple stock IoT devices and install these IoT devices onto the hospital IT network (e.g., as part of a phased rollout); or create instructions for other technicians to do such an install.
- Must be able to learn our current Raspberry Pi and Wi-Fi adapter solutions (described above in brief) and use or build on top of them, as/if required.
- Should be able to handle relevant job administrative tasks, including writing occasional documentation on IoT device configuration or usage as well as creating project timelines and providing status updates on existing deliverables.
- Requires good communication skills as the contractor will be interacting with hospital IT staff and managers (on occasion).
- Compensation: $20K-$23K for a 3-month contract (and equivalently, $80K-$92K for annual salary after the initial 3-month contract). Assumes 40-hour weeks.
