NOOK Media has also experienced tremendous growth, adding new talent to our team at a rate of 65% year over year. Our BN.com, eCommerce team is looking for an additional Java Software Engineer. Responsibilities: What you can expect: * A progressive and established Agile environment that rewards problem solving, collaboration, and innovation. * Participation in code reviews and pair programming exercises. * We have rapid release cycles and you’ll work side-by-side with other Engineers, Architects, Project Manager, Creative/User Experience Pros, and QA. * Work with world-class software engineers and problem solvers in your field with significant input on decisions regarding software design and architecture. * Hold a relentless passion to help us continue to make reading more accessible and learning better by developing your ideas in a startup-like atmosphere (with the power of a Fortune 500 company behind you all the way). About you: * You take pride in writing high quality, robust, scalable, and extensible code. * You have a background in designing and developing high-volume, transactional systems (i.e., eCommerce or similar systems). * You are fearless when it comes to working with new tools, languages or technical environments. * You realize that it’s all about problem solving and the syntax is secondary. * You have a positive attitude, high intellectual curiosity, and a desire to contribute to the team beyond your current role. Qualifications: * 3+ years of stable, professional experience in the development and implementation of Java and J2EE business applications. * Excellent experience of Object-Oriented Design & Development web paradigms and deep experience in working with database-driven websites. * Deep understanding of and experience working with SOA using XML Web Services. * Understanding of and experience working with ActiveMQ. * Strong in data structure and algorithms. * Strong leadership skills and the ability to provide technical guidance and mentorship to other software engineers. * BA/BS in Computer Science or other hard science (but all majors welcome to apply). * MS in Computer Science a plus. * Ability to balance the needs of multiple stakeholders in a matrixed environment. * Ability to work effectively in an entrepreneurial environment, to "fill in the blanks" with points of view, and to round out an "A" team of talented people that value team productivity and results over ego. “Nice to have” Skills: * Experience designing and developing eCommerce solutions. Backend integration is a strong plus. * Experience working with Jersey and/or Jetty. * Past experience of test-driven development (TDD), refactoring and continuous integration. * Experience working with Open Source Software tools and products.
