Advocate Counselor - SCO Family of Services (Brooklyn, NY)

BASIC JOB FUNCTION: The Advocate Counselor acts in the capacity of a case manager, responsible for a caseload of approximately 25-30 students. The Advocate-Ts role is to establish rapport and gain a supportive relationship with each student. The Advocate must act both as a mentor and a guide. The Advocate is responsible for assisting the students to assess their current skills and knowledge; develop short and long term goals and then assist them in strategizing a plan to achieve those goals. The Advocate must also be able to identify issues that are obstacles to the student achieving success and provide assistance in resolving or minimizing the impact of those issues. RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct outreach to recruit participantsProvide 1:1 and group counseling and advocacy to support and motivate students.Maintain case files and attendance in Power Schools.Programming students in the academic and elective areas needed to graduate.Conduct advisory groups by facilitation curricula in the designed program areas, such as job readiness, career exploration, conflict resolution, mediation, leadership, community service, and youth employment.Maintain ongoing communication with parent/guardian of participant.Meet on a regular basis with supervisor.Monitor student attendance, outreach attendance and home visits.
