Director of Veterans' Services - Services for the UnderServed (New York, NY)

The Director of Veterans Services provides operational leadership to SUS' Veterans' Services inclusive of the following programs: Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF), Homeless Veterans Reintergration Programs (HVRP), HUD-VASH Case Management including the direct supervision of three Program Directors and indirect supervison of more than 30 employees comprising clinical, para-professional, administrative, vocational, mentoring, and peer roles.
This individual will play a significant role in maintaining and expanding SUS' Veterans' Services in coordination with Senior and Executive staff and will maintain a high visibility in the veterans community.
The ideal candidate possesses a sophisticated undersatnding of veteran homelessness and unemployment; supportive housing; mental illness and service related disabilitites, e.g. PTSD, TBI, MST; military culture; OIF / OEF veteran re-entry issues; military benefits and entitlements systems.
- Enhance and maintain strong external relationships with current, emerging and potential partners within the veterans' services program area; leverage existing relationships whenever possible and appropriate
- Maintain thorough knowledge of important policy and programmatic trends and factors at the national, state and local levels affecting veterans' services
- Demonstrate superior operational knowledge of public systems serving veterans' inclusive of the VA
- Maintain performance and compliance standards associated with all Federal, State and local funders associated with SUS' Veterans' Services
- Maintain fluency in evidence-based approaches to working with veterans
- Participate in key industry organizations; maintain a high level of visibility in the veterans' community
- In close coordination with the Finance Department, demonstrate fluency in financial operations inclusive of relevant claims protocols and budgeting
- Monitor all contract deliverables and maintain total compliance with all reporting requirements
- Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; minimum of 3 years in a senior level position.
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in relevant subject area; Master's degree (MBA, MPA, MSW) strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated successful experience in the areas of veteran-focused supportive housing, case management, and or clinical services preferred.
