Country estate in Westchester County, NY seeks a full-time Housekeeper/Cook. The job is primarily housecleaning, however there will be cooking duties only when the principals are in residence (this is one of several secondary homes so they are not in residence every weekend). The family consists of 2 adults with visits from adult children, family and friends.

The Housekeeper/Cook is part of a housekeeping team and will report to the Estate Manager and principals.

A wonderful opportunity to be in a beautiful country setting but yet an hour away from New York City. Salary - $70,000. Benefit package includes health insurance after 90 days and a generous vacation policy.


All areas of housekeeping: vacuuming, dusting, making beds, laundry, ironing, etc.

Working with a housekeeping team to ensure the house is guest-ready at all times, including seasonal deep cleaning and other duties as requested.

Kitchen and dining areas are to be kept to a high standard of cleanliness

Regarding the cooking aspect of the job: prepare simple, healthy meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and grocery shop for fresh and seasonal ingredients. Generally, you could be cooking for anywhere from 2 to 8 people if/when the principals are in residence. Present menus for approval and discuss daily requirements with the principals and/or Estate Manager.

Occasionally assist the traveling Head Chef with food preparation and shopping

Assist with parties/events in a cooking and/or cleaning capacity

Occasionally travel for work at principals’ primary residence in NYC and other residences (i.e. The Hamptons).

Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of the family at all times


3+ years’ experience in working for a large estate

Experience in caring for fine art/antiques, silver, fine furnishings, crystal and china

Experience with fine clothing, wardrobe management and clothing/household linen inventory

The position includes working weekends

Strong English skills are essential

Extremely detail-oriented and able to work quickly and be productive

Experience in cooking. Formal cooking training is a plus but not required

Candidate should have a strong and flexible work ethic and be able to take direction

A team player who can communicate/collaborate effectively with fellow staff members

High level of energy and a positive attitude with a teamwork mentality

Ability to prioritize, take initiative, be proactive and multitask

Able to navigate a large residence with multiple buildings

Legal to work in the U.S.

Valid driver’s license, clean driving record. Willingness to undergo a background check and provide references from past employers.
