In stepping, the body is used as an instrument to create intricate sounds and rhythms through a combination of footsteps, claps and the spoken word. The After-School STEP Activity Specialist fulfills their commitment to our mission by ensuring that after-school intervention and enrichment is consistent and safe, and ensures that our girls continue to exhibit scholarship, merit, responsibility, and sisterhood during after-school time. This work will assist our scholars in meeting their goal of getting to and through college. This position will include providing homework help as well as a unique curriculum that supports DYCDs requirements for ELA, Leadership, and STEM instruction (based on Common Core). The After-School Activity Specialist reports to the After-School Program Director.Duties and Responsibilities The After-School Activity Specialist is responsible for the overall development, management, and organization and planning of his or her enrichment activityFacilitate a highly interactive 60 minute performance for 6th-8th grade students that highlights the rhythm, physicality and history of stepping, and culminates in a group activity to get students on their feetTaking attendance and managing dismissalSupervising transitionsProctoring homework help and helping students with all homework Ensuring seamless operations and maintaining the classroom environment throughout the after-school program Qualifications BA in STEM, ELA, or Leadership related area and preferred Masters in related field. At least 2 years related experience in youth development programs preferredAble to lead and participate in group activitiesAbility to work with Middle School youth in an after schools settingMust have a commitment to working with youth with a variety of unique learning needs, while providing high-quality servicesMust have a commitment to work from a strength based and/or youth development perspectiveThose with an interest in single-sex education and pursuing careers in education highly preferred
