The Department of Natural Sciences at LaGuardia Community College seeks to fill a faculty vacancy in Chemistry with an individual who possesses a firm commitment to teaching and research.

The successful candidate will be required to teach undergraduate courses in one or more of the following areas: Introduction to Chemistry for non-majors; General Chemistry I and II; General, Organic and Biological Chemistry (for Health Science majors); Organic Chemistry; as well as the associated laboratories, and other courses according to interest and need. LaGuardia emphasizes excellent teaching in a student-focused environment. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and the ability to work with a diverse population. The appointee will also participate in developing new courses and improving existing curriculum to meet the growing needs of the department and college.

Development of a viable research program and publication in peer-reviewed journals is expected. Undergraduate research and student mentoring are important components of the department's mission and the successful faculty member will be expected to participate in these efforts.

The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in departmental, college and university-wide activities/initiatives and share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.


For Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor:Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

For Instructor:Master's degree in area(s) of expertise, and/or active progress toward a Doctorate, or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
