HS General Living Environment Teacher (East Harlem)

• Are you an extraordinary teacher with a demonstrated track record of leading urban, economically disadvantaged high school students to passing the New York State Regents Exam?
• Do you take personal responsibility for the academic achievement of every student in your classroom?
• Do your colleagues come to you for expert advice when they confront challenges in the classroom?
• Have you created a rigorous learning environment for special needs students in an inner-city high school classroom?

If so, read on.

At Innovation High School you will be rewarded for your professionalism! We are a charter high school in our third year doing what many people believe is impossible: providing a high-quality, Regents and college-bound education to students who are, statistically speaking, the least likely to graduate.

Through rigorous classroom instruction and project-based learning, our teachers are free to create their own curricula and help each student find a unique path to academic achievement. Risk-taking and outside-the-box thinking are welcome and encouraged at Innovation.

Be Resourceful and Self-directed. You will ensure that ALL students achieve academic success, despite learning disabilities and life challenges. You will be held accountable for their progress, and rewarded for their success.

Be Collaborative. Innovation's co-teaching model puts you into a dynamic partnership with a fellow teacher. Our teaching and support teams meet frequently to share information and ensure that each and every student receives the individualized support they need to succeed.

Be honest about your desire to commit to this demanding job. Innovation is not for everybody. We are an urban high school located in East Harlem: 40% of our students have IEPs and most come from low-income and very low-income homes. Experience working with similar populations is strongly suggested. Whatever your experience level, expect to be challenged. If you are looking for a difficult job with big rewards and believe that real change is possible, we'd love to hear from you.
