To achieve this, we recruit the best teachers. Teaching at SBCCS is hard work, and our faculty is actively supported to maximize the results of their efforts. Globally, we aim to professionalize education. We believe that educators ought to be valued as highly and evaluated as rigorously as professionals in other fields, such as medicine, law, and engineering. This principle is reflected in our staff culture, professional development, and competitive salary and benefits.
Characteristics of a South Bronx Classical Teacher:
All teachers at South Bronx Classical are fully aligned with our mission and share the undying belief that maximizing student achievement is their, and the school's, first job. Our teachers do this by maintaining a razor-sharp focus on the school's mission; establishing a "no-excuses" culture in their classrooms; faithfully using our standards-based, backwards-designed, rigorous curriculum; and using data-driven decision-making to evaluate and increase student achievement. Our teachers have a firm foundation of core knowledge, believe that basic skills in reading, writing, and math are critical to early education, and ensure that all their scholars leave their classroom at the end of the year prepared to achieve success in the next grade. Our teachers have a relentless work ethic and an "above and beyond" motivation to create and execute world-class and engaging lessons plans that build on content and skills. Our teachers are truly professionals: they collaborate with their colleagues to exchange ideas and best practices, review data, share successes, and discuss and resolve challenges. Above all, our teachers care deeply about their scholars, who inspire them to achieve life's greatest joy: doing good work well.
4th-year teachers earn $70,000-$75,000. This principle is reflected in our staff culture, professional development, and competitive salary and benefits.
