type of work: teaching SAT class in an urban setting

compensation: $25/hr

non-profit organization (

The Yleana Leadership Program is a residential summer academy for high school students. Students attend on full scholarship and study the SAT, learn about entrepreneurship, and explore issues that will confront them as they join society at large through readings and discussion. They are part of a welcoming and introspective camp community. Students have gone through the program, which is specifically designed to increase SAT scores by 250-300 points (on AVERAGE) in a 3-week period, and now will be following the same curriculum in a series of after-school and Saturday classes.

We are hiring for positions in THREE locations: New York City, NY; Boston, MA and Baltimore, MD.

We are seeking teachers who are willing to follow the Yleana strategic approach to the SAT (some training will be provided; students already have materials, and teachers will be provided materials as well). Teachers should have significant SAT teaching experience as well as familiarity with the specific classroom management challenges of working in an after-school urban setting.

Teachers will work one day per week for 2-3 hrs in the afternoon and one Saturday morning/week for 2-4 hrs (specific times TBA, depending on the teacher's and school's schedules). A possible schedule could be Wednesdays from 3-5pm and Saturdays (alternating weekends) from 10am-12pm AND 10am/2pm. Weekdays will always be class periods; Saturdays will alternate between practice tests and actual teaching. Teachers will be responsible for scanning students' answer sheets and uploading them to a scoring DB, and then printing them and distributing them in the next class, after they are scored.

Classes will run from the first week of September (September 2-5) until the week of October SAT (October 6-10), 2014. THIS IS A SHORT-TERM COMMITMENT, but with the possibility of future work (Yleana is always seeking teachers in a variety of settings).

We are a diverse camp and are actively recruiting a diverse staff.
