BELL is hiring Afterschool Teaching Assistants to work with our program in the Bronx, NY. The Afterschool Teaching Assistant assists in and/or leads in daily academic instruction. The Afterschool Program is located at the X273 Middle School in the Bronx, NY. The program runs until 6/23/17 Teaching Assistants work Monday - Friday 2:00pm - 6:00pm. Core Responsibilities Implement collaborative teaching strategies in a classroom lead and/or support the development and delivery of relevant, engaging, and rigorous lessons Ensure the academic and social development of scholars throughout the afterschool program Serve as a role model for scholars Assist in the development of instructional plans Monitor scholars' educational and social progress and make necessary recommendations for adjustments Consistently support classroom and behavior management to develop a safe and productive learning environment Monitor and track scholars at all times Maintain attendance records and support classroom procedures/functions Supervise scholars during class, classroom transitions and during arrival, dismissal, etc. Assist in special events Skill and Experience Requirements Academic skills - proficiency in middle school ELA and reading. High school diploma required, some college preferred Experience working with middle school scholars and their families in under-resourced communities Belief and commitment to BELL's vision and mission Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback Commitment to teamwork and collaboration. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills Ability to build relationships and influence scholars, staff, community members & families of diverse populations Demonstrated leadership ability Excellent organizational skills
