The English-Speaking Union seeks a congenial outgoing individual for the position of Development Manager to work closely with the organization's Deputy Executive Director and Executive Director managing its national fundraising efforts. The Development Manager will work with executive management and selected Board members to implement the annual Board giving campaign; conduct the National Patron program; research, prepare and write grant proposals and reports to institutional donors and prospects; manage stewardship efforts including acknowledgements, reports, donor correspondence and events; manage cultivation activities including prospect lunches and receptions; coordinate special fund raising events; and coordinate various annual campaigns, including a major year-end appeal.

The successful candidate must be must be an articulate, well-organized self-starter with superior communication skills—particularly with verbal and written English. In addition, he or she must be flexible in nature, have a sound judgment with a collaborative style that fosters teamwork and cooperation. The ability to think strategically while maintaining exceptional attention to detail is crucial as is a commitment to excellent customer service.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree with two to three years of fundraising experience, preferably involving writing and donor engagement activities, are required, as are strong project management and interpersonal skills. Excellent English writing skills are fundamental. Ability to work well with a range of personalities both internally and externally; to travel on occasion; and to work well under pressure are necessary. Proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as with Raiser's Edge fundraising software and selected social media application is imperative.
