The Newburgh Performing Arts Academy (NPAA) is a community school of the arts that provides formal training in the visual and performing arts to children and youth ages 3-18. Founded in 2004, NPAA was established to provide youth with instruction in the creative arts such as dance, theater, music, literary and visual arts.

The Newburgh Performing Arts Academy has grown tremendously over the past ten years and is currently seeking a full time Director of Operations to oversee the organization's next phase of growth and development. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Operations of the Newburgh Performing Arts Academy (NPAA) will work to enhance the artistic and creative excellence of the School; expand the visibility and stature of NPAA; and grow the range and depth of the School's supporters. The Director of Operations will help to ensure that the organization is fiscally sound and that its programs, fundraising and other activities and operations are both efficient and effective, and support NPAA's artistic excellence.

The primary responsibilities of the Director of Operations include, but are not limited to: Leadership Manage the day to day operations of NPAA and assist in directing the organization toward achievement of it's mission and vision; and artistic and creative excellence; Assure that the organization is consistently presented with a strong positive image to relevant stakeholders; Assist with the hiring and development of staff that have the ability to provide NPAA students with outstanding artistic training; Negotiate contracts for artists within the budget parameters set by the organization; Ensure that all end of season recitals and events are successfully executed in a cost effective, revenue producing manner; Manage the operations of all of the organization's public events.

Planning

Participate in the development and implementation of an annual operating plan and five year strategic plan for NPAA that supports the artistic, financial and public relations objectives of the organization; Participate in the development and implementation of current and long-range administrative and personnel planning to ensure that the organization is effectively structured and competently staffed.

Marketing and Communication:

Ensure effective communication with the organization's constituencies: volunteer groups, other arts organizations, public agencies, government agencies, and the general public to achieve the objectives of the organization; Oversee and strengthen the marketing relationship with media contacts; generate feature stories in print and broadcast media about NPAA; Assist in the development of marketing materials for the various programs at NPAA; Strengthen the organization's brand using traditional, electronic and social media. Volunteer Management Develop and engage the Parent Association and other volunteers in support of the organization's objectives; Use volunteer resources effectively to assist the organization in meeting its goals and to make the experience meaningful for the volunteers; Assist volunteers as necessary to help ensure the success of their activities.

Fundraising:Assist in the development and execution of a comprehensive fundraising strategy; Research and write winning grant proposals and prepare reports to funders; Create new special events and activities that raise NPAA's visibility and funding;

The successful candidate will possess the following skills and abilities: •A strategic thinker with excellent planning and management skills; •A strong commitment to arts education and community engagement for all ages; •Experience working with schools and arts education organizations a plus; •A proven track record as a willing and enthusiastic fundraiser who views fundraising as an essential part of the Director's job. •A successful track record with a high level of leadership and fiscal management experience, demonstrated by solid operational, budget administration, financial management, and technology skills; •Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills; •The ability to function effectively and gracefully in a complex, highly creative environment with a wide variety of personalities and communities; •A keen interest in the arts; •Three or more years of experience in organizational management; •Superior skills in problem-solving, setting priorities, delegating, giving guidance and direction, coping with pressure and deadlines, and multi-tasking; •An ability to work with ethnically diverse staff and students. •A strong commitment to excellence in the work of the organization and self; •The ability to work for an Executive Director who accepts nothing less than excellence in all of the organization's endeavors.

QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor's degree required, masters degree preferred. • A deep commitment to youth, the arts, and community development required. • 3 years experience effectively managing youth and/or arts-based organizations. • Experience in fundraising and organizational development, including grant writing. • Strong organizational and communication skills. Must be able to multi-task and meet deadlines under pressure. • Ability to work effectively within the public, private and nonprofit sectors. • Ability to work some nights and weekends as necessary and every Saturday from October until the end of May • Strong background managing budgets • Experience with contracts, including capability to review and discuss with Executive Director, and occasionally negotiate potential contracts in connection with arts projects, facility, and staffing. • Familiarity with the City of Newburgh and surrounding communities and a desire to work in a diverse community setting. About the Newburgh Performing Arts Academy The Newburgh Performing Arts Academy (NPAA) is a not-for-profit community school of the arts located in the City of Newburgh. NPAA was founded in 2004 by Kim Turner, a former dancer who believes that all children should have an opportunity to study the arts without regard for race, income or education. NPAA was established with a mission to educate and enrich the quality of life of individuals in underserved communities through instruction in and access to the various creative art forms such as dance, music, theater and visual arts.
