•Helping to develop and execute organization-wide strategies for external affairs in consultation with the Associate Director of External Affairs, Communications Director, Senior VP for External Affairs, President, and other leaders at MDRC.
•Developing and maintaining relationships with key actors on Capitol Hill and in the federal agencies. Tracking and summarizing federal legislative and agency developments relevant to MDRC policy areas.
•Developing and maintaining relationships with national and state-based organizations — including professional associations, think tanks, and advocacy groups — to help disseminate MDRC’s work to their members and audiences.
•Identifying new audiences for MDRC’s work, particularly in policy areas in which MDRC is less well known, and developing strategies for reaching them.

•Developing content for MDRC’s electronic dissemination efforts (web and social media).
•Helping plan external affairs activities (for instance, presentations and meetings) by senior MDRC staff — as well as tracking and documenting these activities.

•Graduate degree in public policy or related field, plus 5-10 years of leadership experience in communications and government affairs, preferably in Washington, DC, and/or a state capital.
•Knowledge of evaluation research and its relevance to public policy.
•Experience in education and social policy preferred.
•Strong writing and verbal communications skills.
•Ability to work as part of a team and to juggle multiple responsibilities.

Some on-the-job training is provided. Salary and level will be commensurate with experience. Comprehensive fringe benefits offered.

Only candidates selected for further consideration will be contacted.
