Human Resource Specialist

Riis Settlement seeks a Human Resource Specialist responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Human Resource system. The HR Specialist carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: job description, recruiting, hiring, employee orientation, Human Resource administration, employee relations, Policies and procedures, training and development, benefits, compensation. The Human Resources Specialist reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Fiscal Officer.

Job duties and responsibilities Manages the recruiting and hiring process Complies with existing governmental reporting requirements Conduct new hire orientation & prepare orientation packet as needed Prepares and analyzes reports that are necessary to carry out the functions of the agency; Prepares periodic reports for management, as necessary or requested. Provides day-to-day benefits administration services such as benefit enrollment, termination, change etc and assist employees with any claim issues. Maintain and update employee-related spreadsheet as needed Assist with Payroll on a bimonthly basis. Maintain employee training records. Communicate Human Resources policies and procedures to Program Managers Recommend employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale and motivation. Participates in the conduct of investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forth. Monitor staff leave time ( vacation, personal and sick time) Create and update and review HR forms as needed.

Statement of skills, knowledge and abilities Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business administration or equivalent. Two plus years of experience in Human Resources. Knowledge in employment law, employee relations preferred Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of personnel administration Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and database usage. Highly organized, attention to detail and excellent follow-through required Excellent interpersonal skills. Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality. Excellent organizational skills.
