The Organization

Wave Hill is an internationally acclaimed public garden and New York City cultural center located on 28 acres in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, overlooking the Hudson River and the Palisades. Its mission is to celebrate the artistry and legacy of its gardens and landscapes, to preserve its magnificent views and to explore human connections to the natural world through programs in horticulture, education and the arts.

The Manager of Institutional Giving is an essential part of Wave Hill’s Development team. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Manager of Institutional Giving works with members of the entire staff to coordinate and implement Wave Hill’s institutional fundraising plan.

Responsibilities
•Work with the Executive Director, Development Director and Senior Staff to develop fundraising strategies and proposals.
•Assist the Director of Development in creating a plan to fund activities and goals outlined in Wave Hill’s Strategic Plan.
•Formulate new project concepts for programs developed by the program staff, as well as for new management initiatives developed by the Executive Director.
•Generate all written correspondence relating to a foundation, government, and corporate grants, including grant proposals, grant applications, reports, and letters.
•Develop and manage institutional giving from prospects to relationships to donors
•Maintain thorough knowledge of an organization, its mission, and strategic goals.
•Create project budgets for proposals and financial reports for funded projects.
•Identify, research and provide stewardship for institutional prospects; match prospects with appropriate funding opportunities and projects.
•Maintain a calendar of institutional fundraising deadlines and annual institutional development activities in the fundraising database.
•Oversee institutional crediting in all marketing materials.
•Attend and support coordination of donor cultivation activities and special events.
•Serve as Government Affairs Liaison and participate in relevant arts and environmental advocacy activities.
•Other duties assigned by the Director of Development.

Requirements:
This position offers excellent potential for professional growth and an excellent benefits package. A minimum of five years of institutional fundraising experience with a solid understanding of the fundraising landscape in New York City is required, a background in arts and culture is preferred; horticulture and/or environment interest is desired. Must have prior experience with government grants and contracts. Must have superior research, written and verbal communication skills, including proofreading, editing skills, and be extremely detail-oriented. Must also be able to work effectively with various levels of staff and have excellent project management skills. Exemplary organizational and budgeting skills are essential. Experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar donor base system is a must.
