Public Art Coordinator (PAC)

About the Organization:

The 100 Gates Project is an initiative that connects artists with small merchants by creating original mural collaborations that are installed on storefront roll down security gates. The project began in the Lower East Side and is now looking to expand into additional neighborhoods throughout the five boroughs. The project is managed by the Lower East Side Partnership, a not for profit economic and community development organization based on Manhattan's Lower East Side. The program is designed as a community development tool that is geared towards combatting illegal graffiti while beautifying neighborhoods and improving conditions for economic growth as well as for quality of life. The program is grant-supported and comes at no cost to merchants and property owners that participate. A modest stipend is built into program operations to compensate artists for materials and installation.

About the Position:
The 100 Gates Project is looking for a Public Arts Coordinator (PAC) to help grow the project into additional neighborhoods in upper Manhattan and on Staten Island. If you’re applying for this position you are a responsible, independent and fearless self-starter. In these new neighborhoods, the PAC and will be responsible for working with local merchants and artists, devising a way to successfully replicate the project in new locations. The PAC should also have an interest in the arts, community organizing and community planning. This opportunity offers the rare chance to bring your creative passions to the field of economic and community development with significant work in coordinating multiple stakeholders within and outside of municipal government. The PAC serves as liaison between artists, merchants, the 100 Gates Project Director and performs related duties as assigned.

Roles and Responsibilities:
-Full mastery of project history, concept, and messaging;
-Ability to pitch effectively and be extremely persistently;
-Door to door outreach to prospective merchants and property owners;
-Frequent neighborhood site visits to determine ideal installation locations;
-Community engagement with current and prospective partner organizations;
-Representation of the brand in front of community, government and other related stakeholders;
-Project management master with the ability to organize efficiently and balance the agenda of many concurrently scheduled installations
-Knowledge and ability to update project website;
-Agreement distribution and coordination with respective parties;
-Manage social media updates and engagement strategy;
-Ability to plan and execute events;
-Ability to act as “middleman” to moderate conversations between artists and merchants;
-Ability to continuously tracks projects to ensure artwork is completed and installed on
Time; and
-Monitor budget and compliance tracking through regular updates and required reporting.

Job Requirements:
-4 year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience;
-Knowledge and skills typically acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree in arts administration, fine arts, urban planning, economic development, community development, public administration, or related field; or substantial coursework in one or more of these areas;
-Excellent oral and written communication skills;
-Have or ability to obtain valid driver's license; and
-Spanish fluency preferred.
