Special Education & ELL Coordinator - Community Partnership Charter School (Brooklyn, NY)
CPCS is currently seeking an entrepreneurial and talented Special Education and ELL Coordinator. The Special Education and ELL Coordinator will serve as the "owner" of all special education-related services, including writing and implementing rigorous, standards-driven IEPs, managing legal documents and files related to students' IEPs and 504 plans, liaising with external service providers, ensuring all services are in compliance with mandates, and coordinating annual IEP reviews. The Special Education Coordinator is passionate about supporting the students who are at-risk for academic underperformance due to emotional and/or physical challenges so that they can succeed in the school's rigorous academic program. The Special Education Coordinator holds primary responsibility for providing academic, emotional and physical services for student who require additional support to thrive with the school's core academic program.
Beginning with Children Foundation (BwCF) was founded in 1990 by Joe and Carol Reich to establish a high quality school for low-income children in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and to advocate for educational reform in public education. Responsibilities
⢠Manage and coordinate a program of help for children who have been referred for special services through the Pupil Personnel Team at the school.
⢠Arrange and conduct Student Success Team Meetings for mandated students and/or for students who are at risk of failing.
⢠Seek out the help of specialists such as the school social worker, counselor or specialty personnel provided either internally or by the New York City Department of Education to support the diverse needs of students.
⢠Advise teachers who have children with special needs and act as a resource room teacher.
⢠Research and engage relevant specialists to conduct workshops or seminars to address the needs of all students.
⢠Works closely with the Committee on Special Education to meet deadlines for Annual Reviews, Initial Referrals and Re-evaluations.
⢠Manage the English Language Learning program including administering and coordinating home language surveys and the NYSESLAT for students who are identified as Limited English Proficiency (LEP).
Qualifications
At least 5 years experience teaching special education students in an urban school environment.
NYS certification in special education.
Clear understanding of standards-based and differentiated instruction, language acquisition, and English Language Learning best practices.
Strong communication skills and ability to work with others.
