Members will serve the health centers and surrounding communities of our organization, especially in areas of interest to the member and their educational and career aspirations. We provide training in various topics and methods to provide tools for reaching medically under-served communities.

The Greenport and Riverhead AmeriCorps member serves in the capacity of outreach to our migrant farm worker community, along with a small team of staff. There are clinical and quality projects available at the Greenport health center and outreach opportunities out of our Riverhead office. Members would participate in both.

Applicants must be bilingual English/Spanish and feel comfortable speaking to patients in Spanish.

Applicants must be proficient in basic computer skills such as email and browsing the internet.

Applicants must live in the area, have transportation to the service site, a clean driver's license, clean criminal history, and be able to serve a minimum of 9 months and maximum of 12 months.

Members are permitted to work and serve outside of the placement site if it does not interfere with the ability to complete AmeriCorps assignments. AmeriCorps hours can be earned for up to 10% of your time through independent coursework and/or independent service.

This is a great position for a gap year in lieu of an internship. Many of our members are aspiring to careers in social work, public health, medicine, and other health services and nonprofit, community work.

You must be 18 years old, a high-school graduate, and have citizenship or permanent resident status to serve.

Wage: $12,100 annual living stipend plus education award of $5,550 upon completion
