As an integral member of our Magnet Nursing team, your focus will be - the delivery of the world's best patient care! The Patient Care Director is responsible and accountable for the clinical and management functions of the patient care unit on a 24 hour basis. Unit responsibilities include setting of goals and objectives in accordance with HSS strategic initiatives, as well as planning, organizing, directing and monitoring unit activities. The Patient Care Director is fiscally responsible for the unit, facilitating efficient and cost effective daily operations. The Patient Care Director manages and evaluates unit performance and effectiveness of staff while establishing an environment where both staff and patients are able to reach their full potential. The incumbent will lead and coordinate unit activities to assure optimal and appropriate care for all age groups in the unit specific population, consistent with the philosophy and goals of the Nursing Department and Hospital for Special Surgery.

In this role, the Patient Care Director oversees two critical care areas, including a 13 bed Step Down Unit, as well as HSS's Orthopedic Special Care Unit, a 4 bed ICU.

* Ensure clinical and cultural competence of staff

* Assess and improve patient through-put from intake through discharge

* An understanding of Magnet Nursing principles and the ability to operationalize them

* Maintain cultural and diversity appreciation when dealing with patients, visitors, co-workers and other customers.


Essential Requirements:

* BSN Required from an accredited school of nursing, Masters in Nursing Preferred

* 5 years in nursing with clinical leadership or management experience in the PACU and experience in the OR

* Current NY State registration, license required

* Board certificated in an area of expertise required; CCRN preferred

* Strong patient centered approach with a strong emphasis on providing exemplary, world-class customer service

* Self-motivated and proactive; a team player who knows how to think critically in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
