The Putnam/Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center is a not for profit agency, who has been serving victims of domestic and sexual violence in Putnam and Northern Westchester counties, NY for the last 37 years.

The Position:
The Mental Health/Forensic Interviewer is a full-time position for an individual who has knowledge of child development, memory, recall, trauma, domestic violence, sexual abuse, cultural awareness, linguistics; and has had professional experience in working with the criminal justice and child welfare systems. This individual must be team focused and will be able to work well with various partner agency members. The Forensic Interviewer must also be capable of presenting/ training others on abuse prevention topics.

When requested by law enforcement, child protective services or the district attorney’s office, the Mental Health/Forensic Interviewer conducts developmentally age-appropriate interviews of children who are alleged victims of sexual and/or physical abuse, or witnesses to family violence. The Forensic Interviewer is a neutral person who is called upon to elicit details of the alleged abuse as part of the investigative process. When not assigned as the Forensic Interviewer on a case, the person in this position will conduct trauma assessments, provide individual and group therapy and psycho-education as well as, provide crisis intervention and counseling services to child victims and/or non-offending caretakers referred by Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Members.
This position will require this person to work flexible hours/days including at least two evenings per week.

In addition, The Mental Health/Forensic Interviewer must have their own car and be able to travel both locally to and from various work locations, as well as, out of town for training's/conferences/ meetings and other community awareness and work related events.

Education, Experience and Requirements :
Candidates must be a Licensed Social Worker (LMSW or LCSW), OR a Master’s Level Clinical License/Degree in a related field.

Applicants must have received 40-hours of nationally recognized forensic interview training or willing to receive training within six months of date of hire.

Candidates must have professional experience in working with the criminal justice and child welfare systems.
