Business Manager - Columbia University (New York, NY)

Reporting to the Division Administrator, the Business Manager provides comprehensive financial management and accounting; Develops financial projections for institutional leadership; Assists in the development of the Division''s annual budget; Works with the Division Administrator to project annual deficits and surpluses and implements new internal controls in order to manage deficits, where appropriate. Creates business plans for faculty; Creates accounts and executes salary accounting; Communicates with financial officers in other departments and divisions to obtain funding information for salaries and sponsored projects that overlap between divisions. Processes expense reports, invoices, check requests, travel advances, deposits. Manages clinical MSA accounts, including invoicing, cash deposits, reconciliation, and reporting. Manages gift accounts for faculty and division; Performs monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting and forecasting to apprise Division leadership on financial status of all accounts; Downloads and analyzes financial data from numerous sources; Provides financial accounting and reporting related to the fellowship program and processes honorarium payments/ reimbursements for speakers.
Provides pre- and post-award management for all grants and sponsored projects; Develops proposal and study budgets and enters them into RASCAL. Shepherds proposals, budgets, contracts and other documents through Cancer Center clinical trial review, University Clinical Trials office, Research Administration office, and IRB as appropriate. Establishes mechanism for reporting to PIs the financial status of their accounts on routine basis; Maintains shared database with research and academic documentation, submission dates, reporting dates and other deadlines as well as NIH style C.V.s; updates other support information, shared resources, and other proposal support documentation; Coordinates project and grant close-out including final reconciliation, transfers, payroll and time effort documentation, and final report to University Controller. Requires a bachelor''s degree preferably in business administration or a combination of a Bachelor''s degree with equivalent training and experience, plus four years of related experience in business or similar institutional administration.
