Inwood electric bassist seeks 1) drummer, 2) keyboards player, and 3) guitarist to crank out some electric jazz, instrumental rock & fusion tunes at the Blooming Arts Festival in Inwood, on Saturday, June 15. We play four (4) 45-minute sets throughout the afternoon, starting @ 2:00 pm, plus a brief performance to start off the evening concert @ 6:00 pm. Load-in and set-up are from 12:00 noon 'til 1:00 pm. The gig is pure community enrichment, community engagement - and is unpaid.

We'll work up about eight to 10 cover tunes - getting the basic structure down, without the necessity of learning them note-for-note. I'm striving to select material that is 1) high-energy, 2) relatively simple in structure, 3) groovalicious, and 4) offers plenty of space for extended improvisation - and solos. We'll alternate between jamming on the cover tunes, and performing pure improvisation - made up in the moment. Bring your ears, and bring your chops!

Tentative material:

* Blue Wind - Jeff Beck
* Led Boots - Jeff Beck
* Don't Let The World Pass You By - Jean Luc-Ponty
* Puppet's Dance - Jean Luc-Ponty
* Birds of Fire - Mahavishnu Orchestra
* School Days - Stanley Clarke
* Cruise Control - Dixie Dregs
* Kohoutek - Journey (1st album)
* Topaz - Journey (1st album)

I'm also open to suggestion of other material, as long as it meets the screening criteria.

We'll be performing in a large room (church gymnasium), but we'll need to keep the volume to moderate levels. Everyone will need to use small rigs or combo amps, with the exception of the drummer, who will go unamplified. The key for everyone is to play with quickness, passion and power - without becoming a runaway freight train! The keyboards player should bring an instrument that produces piano tones, as well as good basic synth tones - for playing those great Jan Hammer, Rod Morgenstein, Greg Rolie lead/solo parts!

Although this is intended as a one-off event, if the group shows promise and there is energy & chemistry, it could make for the foundation of something ongoing - right here in The Hood. Preference given to players who live in Manhattan from 168th Street uptown - but if you're good and still want to play, don't let that stop you from reaching out.

Let me hear from all you fellow uptowners! Let's see your community spirit!
