I began doing hair within the realms of my family. At that time this was not my career of choice. This changed when one of my niece's teachers asked if I would do her hair. The thought of doing someone outside of my family was a little nerve wrecking. I was reluctant until she came to our house to convince me. It was challenging but I did it, and when I was done she paid me. Following this experience I decided to do as my mother taught (If you’re going to do something, do it right). Here began my quest to acquire more knowledge in the ‘hairdressing trade’. I wanted to make to make sure if there was going to be any monetary exchange I had to have the right training and expertise. I began by attending Michael and Gloria Beauty School (Trinidad) for nine months 1989 Two years later (1991) I enrolled at Magic Fingers Beauty School (Trinidad) for another nine months where I achieved my first certification as a professional beautician. Continuing at this institute I completed Trendsetting Haircutting in1992. Other certificates of participation from: John Paul Mitchell Systems (Salon Haircare Products) 1997. High Fashion Hair Styling (Master Hair Weaver Clem Lue Yat)1997. Basic and Advance Interlocking Hair Weaving (Master Hair Weaver Clem Lue Yat) 1997. Quick Weave Fusion and Interlocking System (Gee’s New Concept Hair Designes) 1999. From then onwards my desire to learn grew immensely. In the years following I migrated to the United States and have since continued with my advance training and education, obtaining my New York State Cosmetology License. Additionally I have received certificates of completion from different educators and companies: Design Essentials (Wet Styling) 2010 Design Essentials (Colaura Foundation 11 & 11) 2010 Rodney Barnett (The Science and Practice of Trichology 2010 Tomeka James (Quick Weave) 2007 Redken Exchange (Cut and Know Why) Redken Exchange (Color and Know Why) The Face Station Make-Up Academy 2010 Dudleys Cosmetology University (Hands on cutting) 2004 Dudleys Cosmetology University (Thermal Curl and Design) 2004 Clem Lue Yat Master Hair Weaver (Interlock and Net weaving System) 2002 My goal is to continue with my advance education in order to better serve and inform my clients and empower myself. My ultimate plan is to become a Master Cosmetologist and Trichologist and earn a degree in Business Management. In 1997 attained Certificate of Participation from John Paul Mitchell Systems.
