College Laboratory Technician




New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college of over 17,000 students in downtown Brooklyn, offering associate and baccalaureate degrees, invites applications for a College Laboratory Technician (CLT) in Mechanical Engineering Technology focusing on manufacturing and robotics, to begin during the Spring 2018 or Fall 2018 semesters.

The Mechanical Engineering Technology department has a full time faculty of 12, with 26 part time faculty members. It offers Associate in Applied Science degrees (AAS) in Mechanical Engineering Technology and Industrial Design Technology and a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering Technology. The Mechanical Engineering Technology programs are accredited by ETAC/ABET.

The CLT will provide laboratory support to the students, teaching faculty, senior CLTs, and the department's chairperson. In addition to teh CUNY Title Overview, the CLT's typical responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

* Set up, maintain, and organize the department's manufacturing and robotics laboratories, including both manual and computer numerical control (CNC) machines.

* Order equipment and materials for laboratories.


High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.


Other Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications include working knowledge in the following areas:

* Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD/CAM)

* Both manual and CNC machines

* 3D modeling and additive manufacturing

* Embedded systems

* Sensors and Actuators
