Auditioning Workshop by David Triacca

5 Weeks $200 (+ $25 registration fee)

Wednesdays 2PM-5PM from Nov. 11 until Dec. 16th

Auditioning is an art unto itself. And, unfortunately, many good actors are never taught this art form. There are so many variables that make up a good audition. Being prepared, being relaxed, owning the material, feeling comfortable in your skin, the ability to have a dialogue about the script, being flexible enough to take direction, and the confidence of being yourself in this most unusual circumstance. This workshop is intended to help actors bridge the gap from the craft of acting to the business of getting a job. Regardless how reputable your training program, if you’re not taught how to execute your technique during the audition process, no one will know it’s there. Many well-trained actors do not know how to make specific choices for an audition. The actor locks up and forgets what they have learned, eventually giving up. This workshop will help free and empower the actor during the audition process. It will trigger one’s curiosity instead of one’s fear. The actor will come to the audition knowing how to activate material quickly and instinctively while making informed choices. You will be presented with many audition scenarios from prepared monologues to cold readings. The skills established in this workshop allow you to harness your personal powers of instinct, imagination, emotional truth and your own sense of reality. Once you realize that there is a balance of power between the actor and director, you might start looking forward to the next audition. You will also learn everything you need to know about the ins-and-outs of the entertainment industry, including headshots, resumes, callbacks and the different areas of employment. Interview required.

LA MAGDALENA returns from Seville, Spain to teach authentic technique, style & choreography straight from the source of "flamenco puro!" Women: Find your expressive powers with feminine hip, arm and hand movement. Men: Stand proud and develop some fancy footwork!

Whether you´d like to perform some day or just get a good workout, JOIN US!

[Men and Women Welcome. This is NOT a partner dance!]

ABOUT FLAMENCO: Multicultural by definition, Flamenco evolved from Moorish, Jewish, Spanish, and Gypsy populations living side by side for centuries in the southern region of Spain. Rhythms from Northern Africa and South America continue to influence this diverse art form today.

Express Your Creative Voice in Clay with Ceramic Artist Matt Nolen
Whether you're exploring new surface techniques, seeking to take your work to a new level or in an entirely different direction, this weekly class affords an amazing opportunity to work with a prominent artist and educator in a small, group setting of up to 10 students. Students engage in independent and group projects, ceramic discussion and creative exchanges of ideas.

About Matt:
Ceramics provides the means by which Matt -- painter, storyteller and architect -- can marry his loves: the painted surface, the three dimensional form and narrative content. In addition to maintaining his own studio, Matt holds teaching positions at NYU and Pratt. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Art & Design in NYC, John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan, WI, The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, Smithsonian Institution, New York, NY and many others.

LA MAGDALENA returns from Seville, Spain this winter to teach authentic technique, style & choreography straight from the source of "flamenco puro!"
Train your ears along with your mind and body as you study the rhythmic patterns of the compás. Learn to play palmas (hand clapping) and stomp out el taconeo. Find your expressive powers with hip, arm and hand movement. (marcaje)

Whether you´d like to perform some day or just get a good workout, JOIN US!

Closed shoe with hard heel recommended.

ABOUT FLAMENCO: Multicultural by definition, Flamenco evolved from Moorish, Jewish, Spanish, and Gypsy communities living side by side for centuries in the southern region of Spain called Andalucia. Rhythms from Northern Africa and South America continue to influence this diverse art form today.

Flamenco appeals to people on many levels due to its intense music and the energetic, vibrant dance it inspires. From the sad song (cante jondo) to the more light and improvised nature of the Buleria, we are reminded of life filled with pride, passion, honor, love, sorrow,... and rejuvenation.

WHAT STUDENTS SAY: "Thanks for all your help in every possible way. You are a class A teacher. Looking forward to June like a kindergartener going into first grade." Lisa N. "...Ha sido un mes muy rico y divertido y me la he pasado muy bien en las clases..." Alex V. "We are both enjoying the classes so much! your enthusiasm and energy as a teacher is inspiring..." Laura R. "...flamenco brings a new dimension to my life ...You really have so much patience and a great approachable teaching style..." Maria "It's so nice - before taking flamenco, when I'd go running or do yoga, the activities didn't have much meaning for me - but now I do these things in the context of dance... and I enjoy them much more now...Thank you for being such an inspiring and wonderful teacher..." Natalja "I just want to say thank you so much for the past 4 months of class. You are such a wonderful teacher ...Every week I looked forward to your classes. As I´ve progressed your classes have been challenging, rewarding and satisfying. I will never forget all that you have taught me...!" Cassandra "Being a teacher myself, I believe that every teacher can give her students something new to learn and to improve. What I enjoyed most about your class is your encouragement to dance, your patience and explanation about what we are doing!" Monica P. "I'm dying to take another class..." Angela
