  • NOTE PLAYING
  • CHORD PLAYING
  • STRUMMING
  • FINGERPICKING
  • PLAYING TECHNIQUES
  • CHORD STRUCTURE
  • TABLATURE
  • MUSIC THEORY
  • DYNAMICS
  • SONG PLAYING

    ...and much more.

You'll learn playing techniques and concepts, and, at lesson's end, have handy access to what you've learned through take-home materials that you'll be given, that you can use to practice with at home.

What some past and present students have said:

"I liked your training. I will reschedule for next Saturday, August 7, 2004 @ 12pm."
    -Diana B.

"I enjoyed our lesson today, and would like to schedule another one for next week. Does Wednesday at 8 work again for you?"
    -Rob E.

"John is a great, patient teacher. As an adult with absolutely no experience, I was hesitant to start learning, but John has taken me much further than I thought I'd go. After just six months, I've learned songs, and my guitar-playing friends have been amazed at the depth of theory and technique I've picked up. I highly recommend John to beginners, and his depth of knowledge would be great for practiced guitarists!"
    -Bob C., August 2005

"I just wanted to let you know that I liked your lesson, thank you very much, and I would definitely like to continue having you as my teacher...you are a great instructor."
    -Eric

"Man, you wouldn't happen to have any of your famous chord progression sheets laying around would you? I am looking for new material and your lessons always clicked with me. I figured out my first song today!"
    -Brandon W.

"All the printed chord charts and explanations you gave me are really helpful, I am starting to understand some of the theory that you talked about in class, it's kind of awesome."

Rock/R&B/Pop experienced voice coach 4 ALICIA KEYS, LADY GAGA and many others

Rock/R&B/Pop experienced voice coach 4 LADY GAGA, ALICIA KEYS and many others

HI. My name is Gordon Grody, I'm a skilled, dedicated and focused voice/songwriting performance coach. I coached Ms. Keys on her previous J album. Most notably on the Grammy winning hit song If I Ain’t Got You. Vocal coached and collaborated for about a year with current superstar Lady Gaga whose singles Just Dance #1 Poker Face #1 and Love Game #5 are huge hits this year (she's on Interscope) Have recently coached Patti Scialfa Springsteen (Bruce’s wife). She has a Columbia album out and is touring worldwide with the E Street Band. I worked with her while she was doing TV gigs promoting her new album (Play It As It Lays) Performing on Conan, The View, Letterman, Today, etc. Just finished producing all vocals with a rock band called Apache Stone whose lead singer, Michael Lombardi (who I voice coach for as well) is one of the stars of FXs hit series Rescue Me. They're signed to MySpace's new label and record release is set for July 7th. Check them out at their MySpace page for ApacheStone amd watch them perform on Rescue Me. I’ve been mentoring and collaborating with contemporary rock recording artist Freddy Wexler (finished EP and LP in L.A. with Matt Wallace Maroon 5s producer on Virgin). If you'd like to check him out go to his website operationfreddy.com and you can hear some of our recorded work together. Freddy has recently been involved in a media blitz through Kidd Kraddick a huge rock radio DJ at his website (check Freddy out atKiddlive.com) in Dallas where he is being billed as the greatest unsigned artist (left Virgin due to creative differences) who deserves a second chance. Because of all this attention he had recently been #1 and sometimes #2 on Sirius radio Hits Hit Bound list beating Coldplay, Rhianna, Fergie etc. #1 and #2 after 5 weeks since 5/1 but has since 7/12 fallen off the chart but he had a great run) exploding with a song we collaborated on called "Defying Gravity". Worked with Alexa Ray Joel (Billy's daughter) as producer/arranger/co-writer and had been her voice coach for over a year. (thankfully had nothing to do with her EP currently being sold at Target) She is currently on tour with her band and is being shopped. You can check her out at myspace.com alexarayjoel. For B'way singers who need assistance in the auditioning with contemporary material process I can really help you folks and have done so. Coached Jamie Linn Sigler (Meadow on the Sopranos) for her Broadway debut in Beauty and the Beast and John Tartaglia of Avenue Q. as well as folks in Passing Strange, Caroline Or Change and Grey Gardens. If you'd like to take a look at some of my credits as a NY. L.A. London session singer, enter Gordon Grody (artist) on allmusic.com and after my name comes up then click on "credits" which are above and to the right and a new page and long list will appear or just do a Google search on me. I've sung live and on records for David Bowie, Steely Dan, Talking Heads, John and Yoko, Peabo Bryson, George Benson, Sting, Debbie Harry, Gene Simmons (Kiss) Phil Collins, Bebel Gilberto, Lea Lorien, Cyndi Lauper, LMNT, Carly Simon, Bonham and many, many more. I also performed a character named Riot on a well known TV cartoon show called Jem and the Holograms. I was trained vocally by Julliard's best classical teachers and have a serious bel canto background. I play guitar and piano (was also a member of Bowie's band for a short but great time) and offer varied services to suit the artists' specific needs. I'm looking for serious students who want or have recording deals and need someone to help them achieve any creative aspect of their goals. My extensive time in recording studios as an artist myself (made albums on RCA, SBK and Arista) gives me a real edge over other voice coaches especially in Rock, R&B and Pop. If you'd like to hear some of my past recorded and released lead vocals in several vocal styles go to You Tube and enter 1) Enter Zinc This Is Where The Love Is (I was the lead vocalist and the band Zinc was released on Arista. 2) Inner City Jam Band/What I Did For Love Disco (#1 Dance record, #5 R&B), 3) you can enter Gordon Grody and a pop/rock song from a Euro band called Silence 2 comes up called The Beast In Me . I'm also still a working singer in the pop music field (lead and backing vocals on numerous TV and radio jingles (Maybe It's Maybelline) and records). Just sang and arranged BG vocals on Keli Price (of the Naked Brothers) new tracks produced by Kiyanu Kim (formerly band member and co-writer with Gwen Stefani) . This past year sang background vocals on the David Letterman Show for Fat Boy Slim and Willie Nelson. Was also hired by Bob Gaudio (The Four Seasons and Jersey Boys creator and original band member and producer) to sing all reference lead vocals for Frankie Valli during basic band track recording for his upcoming comeback album on Universal which was just released. Worked for old friend Paul Schaeffer (Letterman) singing lead and background on the Strangers With Candy soundtrack as well. I strongly believe that vocal excersizes, of which I have plenty are not really useful unless they can be directly integrated into the artist's material and performance. Unlike other coaches, I don't do the same thing with each and every student. I don't believe in that and make sure I give each student tools that they and I agree are what's needed to achieve genuine results. It takes more work and concentration but it yields better results. I really focus with nearly every one I work with on vowel consistency and voice placement (the right and best spots). When it comes to singing, I believe that effort and struggle are two very different things. Let's increase effort and reduce struggle together. I have recently relocated in Brooklyn but I continue to work and teach in Manhattan as well. You can phone me at 917 439-9372.

Take guitar lessons with Justin Thompson -- a singer/songwriter/jazz guitarist who is called "the rowdy Harry Connick Jr" in TIME magazine by Oscar winning actress Marcia Gay Harden. Read the article here ... http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1879174,00.html

Over the past 24 years, I have taught students ranging from Grammy winning superstars to inner city children with learning disabilities. This has given me the experience to patiently teach all levels, styles and ages to their maximum potential.

    MY APPROACH

Before our first meeting, I have the student make a list of their 10 favorite guitarists/artists/bands and a CD of 10 songs they would like to learn. I then customize the lessons to fit the student’s desires. They learn the guitar fretboard and music theory while learning the style and the songs they want. The first lesson is a 90 minute consultation where I evaluate the student’s abilities and what they wish to achieve. This lesson is $50. Then if the student wishes to continue, lessons are $50 per hour or $150 per month (4 lessons @ $37.50 per hour). They build a repertoire of songs while learning chords, scales, arpeggios, licks, improvisation, proper technique and ear training.

I'm a 27 year old guitarist/songwriter looking to start serious band. Looking for Vox, Bass and Drums. Influences: The Verve, Oasis, Pink Floyd and The Doors. Age: Mid to late 20's. Age and influences a must. I already have several songs written ready to be rehearsed. Looking for committed mates to rehearse twice a week and start gigging as soon as possible.

Vocalist: influences and references (Liam Galghr, Morrison, Ashcroft) mid to hi range.

Bassist: Somebody that can also write some melodies and not always double guitar. Additional instrument i.e. keyboards huge plus!

Drummer: No snare drummers. Has to be able to be melodic and have a great sense of timing. Jazzy influences a plus!

I know this AD is kind of f***ing long, but I just to make sure before replying that we are on the on the same page. I don't want to waste my time nor yours.

I'm a singer that plays guitar and I'm looking to jam with some metal musicians (Guitar, Bass, and Drums) and start a project with. I have a full-time job, but music is my passion. I would like to get on stage with this project. Prefer to work with ppl in their mid to late 20's. Call 1-888-385-7941 and leave a message. No solicitations.
