My name is David Sklar. I am a professional piano/keyboard instructor as well as graduate of Manhattan School of Music and Berklee College of Music. My style of teaching is very unique and I have been teaching for over 16 years. My students have gone on to win competitions, awards and gain acceptance into major conservatories. I have released 2 albums, have been the featured artist on a number of radio stations across the United States and I have performed in large concert halls such as Lincoln Center. I am accepting all ages and levels. FIRST PIANO LESSON IS FREE!!!!

I concentrate on multiple points of focus:

Technique - The idea is to make sure that the student utilizes all of the tools supplied to them properly. To make sure that they are using the correct muscles in their playing as well as phrasing and dynamics.

Music Theory - Key signatures, counterpoint, modes, enharmonics, transposition, reading music which are all used in both classical and jazz among other styles to give the student a greater understanding of how music is constructed. This of course takes time but is well worth it and extremely important.

Ear Training - Developing the students inner hearing and inner pitch along with memorization skills and to be able to channel energy into their playing.

The main thing is to have fun while you are learning. I have experience teaching young children as well starting from preschool and the lessons are designed to walk them through step by step. I also teach adults beginner through advanced.

I offer lessons in your home or in my teaching studio and my rates are reasonable!

Studio space available for rehearsal in Westchester. All studios feature keyboards, PA systems, tuners, metronomes, CD players (with mp3 capability) and large mirrors. The larger studios each feature two Marshall guitar amps, and a Fender Twin, one Hartke bass amp, one Yamaha P-90 keyboard/amp, one Pearl & Tama drum set and Shure & Electrovoice microphones as needed. Studio 1 features a drum stage. Additional equipment is available upon request.

Other features include a comfortable lounge with a television and an extensive music collection, kitchen area with a snack bar, and Wi-Fi in every room.

All studios are cleaned and maintained daily. Our studio is conveniently located in Elmsford, NY, one block from 9A/Saw Mill River Road, which is right off of exit 2 on I-287. Studio is open from 10am until midnight 7 days a week.
